Emmy award-winning television broadcaster Gwen Tolbart

Emmy award-winning television broadcaster Gwen Tolbart, BA 95, will receive the International Excellence Award on May 28 at the Alumni Recognition Awards.

Gwen was the first Black news and weather anchor on Canada’s The Weather Network. In 2023, she became the first Canadian journalist and meteorologist inducted into the U.S. National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) Hall of Fame.

Her relentless dedication to community service earned her President Obama’s Lifetime Community Service Award in 2016. She was also named a Top 100 Woman in Maryland in 2014.

A TedX professional speaker, she is a the CEO of Tolbart Talks and co-founder of 4EveryGoodReason, a film company that tells stories of underserved communities.
