Njala University Hospital Conducts Two Successful Surgeries

Njala University Hospital has successfully conducted two Hernia surgeries on Saturday, 4th July, 2020 on Ibrahim Humper and Abdulai Sesay all of Njala Mokonde Community on a cost free basis.

Mr. Ibrahim Fortune, Surgical Community Health Officer (CHO), Njala University hospital led the successful surgeries with the support of the Senior Medical Doctor, Mohamed Koker.

The CHO disclosed that records at the hospital had showed that the surgeries were last conducted at the hospital in 2010.

He furthered that his team administered a regional/spinal anesthesia on the two patients and followed a careful procedure which resulted to a successful operation.

“We later admitted them for three days before discharging them” Mr Fortune averred. The operation he went on was done free of charge on the two patients except that they provided IV fluids, antibiotics and pain killers.

CHO fortune concluded that he is hopeful his team has the capacity to address more of these cases in the immediate communities if only they get the required support from the University and the Government of Sierra Leone.

The Senior Medical Doctor, Mohamed Koker praised the exuberance of the Surgical CHO, Mr. Ibrahim Fortune the anesthesiologist, Mr Edmond Sellu, Anesthesia technician and other members of the team for putting the hospital back on the map.

He urged the relevant authorities to address the issues of providing a medically functioning laboratory with well-stocked pharmacy for the hospital to function effectively.

The new Administration at Njala University under the watch of Acting Vice Chancellor and Principal, Professor Osman Sankoh (Mallam .O.) is very keen to see a change at the Hospital.

The Acting VC &P, Mallam .O. and the Pro Chancellor, Professor Arthur Abraham have personally visited the hospital to assess its current status. They have lobbied with the MOHS and other private sector individuals and organizations to help change the narrative and provide efficient services for the hospital.

In another Development, the National Malaria Control Program, Sierra Leone (NMCP) has on Monday 6th July, 2020 donated to the Njala University Hospital Malaria Test Kits, Mosquito bed nets and malaria drugs for all categories of patients.

The consignment according to Dr. Koker is capable of treating over five hundred patients free of cost in the facility.

The donation is part of the strides by the Njala University administration to equip the hospital which is in dire need of support.
